Jio IPO 2026: India's Biggest Listing Is Here. Is It Worth Your Money?

INTRO:

The Jio IPO 2026 opens for subscription on 21 October, and the noise around it is deafening. Everyone talks about the size, the Ambani name and the grey market premium. I care about a simpler question: what am I paying, and what do I actually get? So I went through the red herring prospectus and the numbers. Here is my honest take.

Jio IPO 2026 at a Glance

- Opens and closes: 21 to 23 October 2026

- Anchor bidding: 19 October 2026

- Price band: ₹1,065 to ₹1,119 per share

- Lot size: 12 shares

- Issue: up to 27 crore fresh equity shares, about ₹28,755 to ₹30,213 crore

- Implied valuation: about ₹10.3 lakh crore (roughly $107 billion) at the upper band

- Allotment: 26 October 2026

- Tentative listing: 28 October 2026 on NSE and BSE

The Jio IPO 2026 is a 100% fresh issue. That means no promoter is cashing out. Up to ₹27,500 crore of the proceeds will repay borrowings at Reliance Jio Infocomm, so the money mainly strengthens the balance sheet instead of funding new growth.

Jio Platforms Financials: The Business Is a Cash Machine

Jio's FY26 numbers are genuinely strong.

- Revenue from operations: about ₹1.47 lakh crore, up 14.6%

- EBITDA: ₹76,255 crore, a margin of 51.9%

- Profit after tax: ₹30,049 crore, up 15.1%

- Subscribers: more than 500 million

The most important number, in my view, is free cash generation. EBITDA minus cash capex jumped from ₹1,449 crore in FY24 to ₹42,071 crore in FY26. The heavy 5G spending phase is largely behind the company. That matters more to me than the profit headline.

Is the Jio IPO 2026 Valuation Fair?

At the upper price band, Jio trades at about 34 times FY26 earnings. Bharti Airtel trades at roughly 35 times. On the surface, that looks reasonable. However, there is a catch.

Jio's average revenue per user is ₹214 a month, compared with ₹257 for Airtel's India mobile business. Jio's EBITDA margin of 51.9% also trails Airtel's 57.5%. In other words, you are paying an Airtel-like multiple for a business with lower per-user earnings today. The market is pricing in future tariff hikes and growth in digital services.

On a positive note, the final pricing came in below several brokerage estimates that circulated earlier this year. So the issue is not priced as aggressively as the hype suggested.

Key Risks Before You Apply

1. Valuation risk. At around 34 times earnings, there is little margin of safety if growth slows.

2. Telecom dependence. The telecom arm contributes about 88% of revenue and 95% of EBITDA. The AI, fintech and digital story is still mostly potential.

3. Returns on capital. Return on average capital employed fell to about 10.76%, which shows how much capital sits in the business.

4. Small free float. Only about 2.9% of shares are on offer. A small float and heavy retail demand can cause sharp swings after listing.

Jio IPO GMP: Why I Ignore It

The grey market premium is around ₹200, close to 18% above the upper band. However, the GMP is unofficial and can change within hours. Treat it as market mood, not as research. Never base your Jio IPO 2026 decision on it.

My Personal Investor Review of the Jio IPO 2026

As an investor and trader, I see this as a long-term allocation, not a listing-day trade. Here is how I weigh it.

First, the quality is real. Few Indian companies combine 52% margins, falling leverage and rising cash flow at this scale.

Second, the price leaves limited room for error. You are paying for years of tariff increases, ARPU growth and the monetisation of the digital layer. If those slip, the stock can move sideways for a long time.

Third, the pricing is not extreme. It is rich, but it is not reckless.

My verdict:

subscribe for the long term, with realistic expectations. If you apply, think in terms of three to five years. Do not borrow money to chase listing gains. Do not invest money you cannot leave alone. If your whole plan depends on a day-one jump, skip this one. You will probably receive a partial allotment anyway, and you can still buy the stock after listing at a price you are comfortable with.
